Jason, Here's more information about the little VBBS (Virtual BBS) community: Roland added a networking feature to the board, similar to FidoNET, which was called VirtualNET. It was also possible to create subnets with this software, and we had a small subnet (about 80 nodes) called HOGnet. The original board in HOGnet was Heart Of Gold, sysop friday jones (aka fries). House Of Gremlin was aka HOG II. HOG III was run by Keye and was aka Hordes of Gnomes (official name was Sure 2B Famous). I noted that for the 408 AC boards, you have a "HOGNET" listed at phone number 408-248-4736. I believe, but I'm not sure, that was my House Of Gremlin in San Jose from 1990-1991. I've been looking around on my system and found lots of files related to the ol' HOGnet. I'm going to attach some files that list the VirtualNET and HOGnet BBS names and numbers. I also found a copy of the USBBS list from around that time. --------------------- The following is how we described our little network back in the day: Rev. 06/10/93 HOGnet was conceived in October of 1990 so that fries and I wouldn't have to log on to each other's BBS. We were running Opus at the time, and would have needed to join FidoNet just to network a few subs. T00 much trouble, but we started working at it. Then, Keye discovered VBBS. It worked, and it networked! So, fries and I dumped the FidoNet idea with all it's rules and joined VirtualNET. Keye was the 7th system to join, and fries and I were the next two. We were able to get our subs added to VirtualNET as 1000 series numbers, and between us we generated about 90% of the network traffic. As VirtualNET grew, we dropped the technical and sysop HOGnet subs in lieu of just reading the VirtualNET versions. Recently, VirtualNET has gotten *so* big that it is a little stifling at times for our two little subs. Plus, things are going on with changing the support subs around. Because of this, we decided to finally "go for it" and make HOGnet and official localnet 15 network. Of course, with the release of VBBS 6.1, HOGnet has a permanent home on slot 47 of the networks list. We now carry about 30 subs, with the two in VirtualNET, Acme Acres and Wackyland!, being gated from their new home in HOGnet back into VirtualNET. Several of our subs are also being gated into InfoNET1. We offer g00d support with three sysops who have been using VBBS since 1.x on hand and willing to help anyone. We have *no* topic police, and encourage everyone to have fun. That is the driving force behind HOGnet--BBSing is our hobby, and we want it to remain fun. You can easily get h00ked into HOGnet through permanent slot 47. We already have servers scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada.
